September 2005 The Shoreline Page 7 Annual Bulb Sale Slated in New Bern With steamy summer days still hanging heavy on our minds, it may be hard to think of planting bulbs for next year’s blooms. But the time is here! The Craven County Master Gardeners will give you a good place to start when they return to the Farmers Market in New Bern this fall to host their annual bulb sale, offering some of the best bulbs you can find for our area. In view of the heavy demand and early sell-outs in previous years. Master Gardeners will provide two bulb purchasing opportunities this year. On Saturday, Sept. 24, they will hold an advance sale, taking prepaid orders. By ordering in advance, you can be assured of getting the bulbs you want, in the quantities you want. On Saturday, Oct. 15, they will hold their regular “first-come, first-served” sale, and have advance orders packaged and ready for pick up. Both events will be held at the Farmer’s Market starting at 7 a.m. Master Gardener bulb sales provide a great opportunity to find excellent bulbs from the premier grower in Eastern North Carolina, all specially selected for Dining Around Town By Jane Ashland Floyd’s 1921 Restaurant at 400 Bridges St. in Morehead City is a new restaurant we are fortunate to have. Reservations are advisable. The day we lunched at the establishment, there was a large crowd and we had to wait for a table. However, it was well worth it. We found the ambience warm and the service very professional. The luncheon menu is large and diversified. One of our group enjoyed a delicious entrfe of scallops served over a bed of creamed spinach. Another raved about the green tomatoes with mozzarella cheese served with grilled shrimp. Very tasty! The desserts are all homemade and very hard to choose from. The crfeme brulee, one of their specialties, was truly excellent. At their attractive bar they have any cocktail you prefer plus a large wine list. Many of their numerous brands of beer are North Carolina brewed. The prices range from $4.95 to $10.95 for lunch and $8.95 to $29.95 for dinner. Breakfast, served on Sunday morning at 9:30, starts at $5.95. The telephone number is 727-1921. We look forward to returning.
